At P&O Ferrymasters we use the terms Standards, Education and Behaviour

What are the concerns or what can go wrong with Safety that results in accidents, can be broken down into 3 areas:

1) Standards – these are the rules or the methods of work or working practices – how should I do the job safely

2) Induction, education and training – this is the method of communicating these standards to ensure the driver understands, and has the knowledge within them to complete their work safely

3) Behaviour is then about the area that, the standard exists, the driver knows and understands the standard, so why haven’t they followed and complied with the standard?
