3rd November 2016
Tailor-made logistics solutions leader P&O Ferrymasters has been granted Gold Level recognition for corporate social responsibility following a ratings assessment by EcoVadis, the supply chain sustainability specialist.
The assessment was part of a review of suppliers requested by a P&O Ferrymasters customer. Based on 21 criteria, the results place the company in the top 4% of suppliers across all categories and in the top 2% for road transport. The company achieved a silver rating when last audited in 2014.
Four main areas were judged in the latest exercise - the environment, labour practices, fair business practices and sustainable procurement.
P&O Ferrymasters was found to endorse sector initiatives on environmental issues - notably the provision of CO2 emissions measurements for clients and measures to reduce emissions and energy consumption through optimisation of transport.
On labour practices, the assessment noted the company’s comprehensive policy on labour and human rights, with a European Works Council in place, measures to prevent discrimination, the provision of skills development training and accident reporting procedures.
Under fair business practices, EcoVadis acknowledged the company’s structured mechanisms to deal with policy violations.
As for sustainable procurement, P&O Ferrymasters was commended for its comprehensive policies regarding both social and environmental factors, and for the integration of environmental, social and health & safety criteria when purchasing products or labour resources.
