P&O Ferrymasters and TIP Trailer Services partners up with NHTV University of Applied Sciences
24th October 2016
P&O Ferrymasters and TIP Trailer Services started a partnership with the NHTV University of Applied Sciences in Breda. TIP hosted a group of more than 25 2nd year students as part of their 5 day international field trip. Bas Belder, managing director of P&O Ferrymasters and moreover one of TIP’s key Pan European customers, was also asked to join the event. Bas’s insights into the supply chain have been very well received by the students. TIP and P&O Ferrymasters have committed to support the University on an annual basis not only with the 2nd year international field trip. TIP has offered to support the 1st year national event which was welcomed by Eric De Ruijter (MSc) Lecturer Logistics (operations management & warehousing).
As part of the study programs Logistics & Economics and Logistics & Engineering, the second year students of the NHTV University of Applied Sciences in Breda, The Netherlands, went on a 5-day field trip to London. The trip offered a variety of excursions and company visits that allowed the students to experience various aspects of an international business environment. Among the excursions were visits to the University College London Hospital, the BMW/Mini factory in Oxford, the Meantime Brewery and a visit to TIP / P&O Ferrymasters.
As the students are currently finalising a project about multimodal transportation, the presentations held by Paul Beadle, chief operating officer and Rogier Laan, general manager Benelux of TIP and Bas Belder, managing director of P&O Ferrymasters were especially interesting for the students. As one of the students put it “Mr. Belder showed us the key success factors of intermodal transportation which we can use in our current school project. It really helps us in the next stage of this project, which is setting up a shuttle rail service between Rotterdam and the terminal Germany we have been working on.”
After the presentations, a visit was scheduled to the TIP facilities in Grays/Essex which gave a vivid impression of the services TIP is offering to its customers. Especially because there were various P&O Ferrymasters trailers being serviced on. The intention is to repeat the visit to TIP and P&O Ferrymasters next year.
The next day, after an interesting presentation held by engineering consulting firm Royal Haskoning DHV in London and a visit to the Meantime brewery, the fieldtrip came to an end.
Both TIP Trailer Services and P&O Ferrymasters have welcomed the students back to their companies for the 3rd year internship program. Both organisations value diversity welcome young talent into their organisations.
